![]() It probably won't be as good a scanning platform, but it's got twice the shields, many (many) times the firepower, can carry a crew of up to four, has hydrogen refining, a real cargo bay and can almost certainly carry a Ranger. ![]() It's not as well armored as a Terrapin, but it's frightfully more capable. The number of occasions where some cargo or a tractor beam or the better armaments will come in handy seem far more likely to occur than situations that *require* a Terrapin. A 315p has the same amenities on the interior, is more maneuverable, better armed, can be run entirely from the cockpit and has 12SCU of cargo and a tractor beam. I can see it being a very popular ship on carriers.īut for a solo explorer out investigating the 'verse, not knowing what they're looking for or will find? You can do so very much better for so very much less - either UEC or cash. For an "AWACS" style ship from a base or a carrier? It should be great - if you're always bunking down off the ship the lack of interior amenities for two means you can properly use it under way, and that scanner should be much greater ranged than anything else that size. It *should* be unparalleled at something scanning-related when all's said and done, but that comes at the cost of not being able to use that functionality without leaving the helm, because it doesn't have the internal amenities to support a crew of two. It's heavily armored, and thus can run very low emissions if it needs to (shields just off.) It's got more shielding than most small ships when they're running too. It's a damn cool ship design, but I just don't see any future where on a day to day regular basis the advantages it will have compensate for the limitations, and when you take the pricetag into account? Nope. If you want a general-purpose solo Pathfinder? Then no, I don't think there's a compelling gameplay reason to keep a Terrapin. It depends a *ton* on what you want to do with it. Like I said, it's a cool ship, if there was a good reason to keep it in my hangar I would, but I haven't found one compelling argument to do so yet. Maybe it's toughness rating will skyrocket when armor is actually implemented? Also, the scanner thing on the top of the ship looks huge, but on Erkul it says it has two size 1 radars, on RSI it says two size 2 scanners. It's two size 2 weapons and 13,925 hull HP (only about 2,000 more than a Hornet) makes me feel like this description is wildly inaccurate. Mentioning that it has a "advanced, hard-hitting array of weapons" and having "maximum possible defence" for a ship it's size. ![]() It's a cool ship don't get me wrong, but it's description on the RSI store is very misleading. It makes me feel like the Terrapin is going to be very valuable in the future.maybe. While looking at CCUs that chain with the Terrapin, I'm seeing lots of upgrades from really nice ships to the Terrapin. I've been thinking of CCUing it to something undetermined. ![]() Here is a short history of publications about the Terrapin from the RSI website. So I have a Terrapin that came with a ship pack. The Terrapin was the first military contract awarded to Anvil Aerospace. The spacecraft is encased with heavy armor that allows it to survive skirmishes with a lighter raiding craft. Outfitted with sensitive scanners, it is used for long-duration reconnaissance and leg patrol missions where crewmembers might need to be separated from support facilities for weeks at a time. The Terrapin is a deep-space armored scout ship developed by Anvil Aerospace for the United Empire of Earth Navy (UEEN). While it lacks the maneuverability of a dedicated fighter, it does maintain an advanced, hard-hitting array of weapons intended to keep the most fearsome Vanduul raider at bay. The Terrapin’s watchword is protection, with extensive shield systems and armor layers designed to provide the maximum possible defense for pilot and crew. The Terrapin was developed near the end of the 28th century to serve as the first ship in the Empire’s defensive restructuring of the Navy. Presenting the Anvil Aerospace U4A-3 Terrapin-class Scanning/Exploration Ship.
